The reference picture will give you an idea of the placement for these lines, but once again, don’t be afraid to change it up a bit to make it more your own! Step 5 – Complete the final details with some depthīefore we move on to having some fun with coloring in the final step, we will keep building up some details with more lines in this step. These lines will be building on from the lines you’ve already drawn so far, and will extend the wave further on both the left and right sides. Your wave drawing is starting to look more and more like a real wave the more you add to it! We shall be adding a combination of somewhat straighter and curved lines to your wave in this next step. You can also vary these lines a bit to put your own unique spin on your wave drawing as well! Step 4 – Now, add some more lines to your wave Then, you can add a much curvier line under the line at the far right of your wave. We’ve been taking it slowly and simply so far in this guide on how to draw a wave, so for this step, we will start to add in more drastic curved lines to it.įirstly, draw in a more jagged but still slightly curved line connecting on the left-hand side of the wave as you can see in the image. With that line added, we can move on to step 3! Step 3 – Continue adding in more curvy lines This line will extend from under the ending curved line at the right-hand side that you drew in the first step and curve out. Step 2 – Draw in another curved line for your waveĬontinuing on with your wave drawing, we shall add in one more line underneath the one you just did. It will end in a very curved line that we will be building on later. The first line we will be drawing in will be a very curly, curvy line as it appears in the reference image. With this in mind, we will start simply in this step. Like all new drawing challenges, learning how to draw a cloud will be made easier if you break it down into smaller, more manageable steps. This step-by-step guide on how to draw a wave in 6 easy steps will have you drawing beautiful waves easily! How to Draw A Wave – Let’s get Started! Step 1 There’s also fun to be had diving into and surfing on the waves, but what about drawing them? If you have assumed it would be difficult to draw a wave, then you’re in the right place. It’s a wonderful thing to hear the ocean gently in the breeze and the crashing of waves on the rocks. I decided to finish this painting off by painting the sides of the canvas black! You can paint the sides of your canvas the same as the painting (gallery wrap) or choose a solid color. The golden sand, bright blue sky and maybe some palm trees all contribute to that wonderful vacation feeling, but of all these elements there’s one that does the most work in making that feeling come to life: the waves of the ocean! When the paint dries, you can erase the chalk with a clean wet paint brush or a damp paper towel. Then draw white/ yellow reflection lines inside the heart shape. ![]() You can pair your canvases together and draw a heart with a piece of chalk. This is a reflection on the bottom of the canvas. Then paint some more white/ yellow reflection lines below the sun. Otherwise paint your sun anywhere on the horizon line. If you are doing this as a “duo couples painting” you can have your sun right in the middle. I also used a round brush to paint some individual tiny circles on the wave with more titanium white. I tend to go overboard with too many water lines but I love color! I added more darker water lines as well as more white lines. Next use your round brush and add yellow and pink over the white reflection lines. Then use a toothbrush to splatter white paint in the areas where you did the splash texture (or pretty much all over the wave if you want). Load it into titanium white and tap the brush to create the texture.Īdd splash texture to the tip, the bottom and top of the wave. Use a round “bristle brush” to paint the splash texture. These white lines will be used as a base for some of the sunset color after the white dries. Use your round brush to paint bright white water lines on the inner part of the wave as well as the bottom underneath the wave. You can add cobalt blue hue in there as well. ![]() Then paint turquoise on the bottom part of the water, having the water go horizontal on the bottom part under the wave.
